In December 2023 CEPI and PATH announced a “renewed collaboration” to accelerate vaccine development against emerging infectious diseases. The strengthened partnership will contribute to CEPI’s 100 Days Mission, with PATH helping CEPI to enhance its capacities for project design and management, implementation, coordination, and operational oversight. PATH will also collaborate with CEPI partners to offer services that enable the rapid development of vaccines against pathogens with epidemic or pandemic potential.

Path will participate in “multiple” CEPI-funded projects. Furthermore, to ensure adequate vaccine uptake in the event of an outbreak, it will work with CEPI to enhance support for communication and advocacy activities in low-resource communities affected by relevant pathogens. The continuation of this partnership reflects previous successful collaborations, including PATH’s assistance to CEPI on vaccine candidates against Nipah virus and COVID-19 as well as contributions to the assessment of alternative delivery devices.

Greater potential together

CEO of CEPI, Dr Richard Hatchett, commented that PATH has supported CEPI “in various capacities, almost since our inception”. He looks forward to the “renewed partnership”, which “builds upon and extends our potential areas for collaboration” in support of the 100 Days Mission.

“In doing so, the world will be better prepared to face future viral threats by developing pandemic-busting vaccines potentially within 100 days of being alerted to the threat.”

Jessica Milman is PATH’s Centre for Vaccine Innovation and Access Global Head and is “excited” to “continue partnering with CEPI on accelerating equitable access to vaccines against future threats”.

“We look forward to contributing to CEPI’s essential mission by leveraging our breadth of experience in vaccine development and implementation.”
